Sales Tip of the Day: EARLY IN THE MORNING

Earlyinthemorning

One of the most common concerns of the sales teams I train is how to get more done with what seems like less and less time to do them.

The easiest answer may seem difficult, but it works:  start early in the morning.

Yes, I know, you are not really a morning person.  Guess what, neither was I.  Despite a half-dozen years in the Marines where my day jump-started at 5AM, and a decade of morning show radio that started even earlier than that, I was still not a morning person.

But the truth is the earlier I start, the more I get done.  Nothing beat the mornings when I was in the radio station two hours before my show began.  I got more done during those two hours that I could ever get done in the nine-to-five zone.

So how do you make the shift to being a morning person?  Here’s a few things that will help:

Start going to bed a little earlier each evening.  Just a few minutes each day will do the trick.
Trade out your clock for one without a snooze button.
Open up the windows wide and let all the sunshine in as soon as you wake.
Maintain your early-morning schedule on the weekends.
Plan your evening activities so you have no trouble getting right to sleep.

Once you’ve established your routine, start having breakfast with a single client, prospect or colleague (Chamber meetings or networking groups don’t count) as often as you can.  You’ll be amazed at what you’ll be able to accomplish, and earn, once you get into this habit.
